  • Pastor's Pondering

Don’t you love new beginnings? I was thinking today of the “new beginnings” I have had in my life. I thought of when I left LaGrange for college and the opportunity for a new beginning was in front of me. I thought of when Cheri and I got married and again, I was presented a new beginning. These are all times of transitions where we can start afresh. They are times when God brings a “newness” to your life that will impact you in a great way.

Today we have at First Baptist have been blessed with a fresh newness involving our website. We are thrilled with the opportunities that God is giving us to take His Gospel to this world in new ways. We are also excited about the way this tool can impact the communication at First Baptist. I hope that this will be a media resource that you will come to often. I will be taking the opportunity to post a blog under my “Pastor’s Ponderings” heading. It will be a chance for me to share with you what God is sharing with me in my quiet time. I daily spend time with the Lord asking Him to guide me to be a spiritual influence on those He has entrusted to me. I hope to post on a frequent basis ( not necessarily daily) and encourage you to check in often to see what God has to say. We look forward to sharing this website with you and hope you will give us comments on what you like and how we can make it better.

Of course the greatest “new beginning” is when Christ comes into our lives and changes our destination from sinner bound for hell to saint bound for glory. I pray that you have experienced this transition. If you have not I encourage you to turn to God’s Word, read the Book of John and experience the love God has for you. If you would like to know more about how to ask Christ to be Lord and Savior of your life, please contact us by phone, letter or email and we would love to help you grasp this new beginning.

Thanks for checking us out today and we pray for you and that you will join us on a consistent basis.

    God bless you,

    Pastor Jeff

    Worship

John Ortberg, in the foreword to The Dangerous Act of Worship by Mark Labberton says, "[Worship] is the act of walking humbly before your God. It is the knee-buckling, jaw-dropping acknowledgment of the gap between the creature and the Creator, the finite and the Infinite, the sinful and the Holy. It is the heart-rending, spirit-mending gratitude and joy of those who have tasted the wonder that words like redemption can only hint at."

At Fernandina Beach First Baptist, we believe that worship is not about style. In fact, worship is not even about music. Music is simply a tool that can be used to create an environment for corporate celebration.

However, we also believe that each people group, each generation, needs to be able to express its sense of worship in its own voice, in a way that can resonate deep in the soul.

It is because of this core belief that FBC offers a truly blended style of worship. We choose to shy away from over-used and too often misunderstood labels such as Contemporary or Traditional. Instead we believe in one church, offering one voice in worship to an Audience of ONE!

In our worship, we utilize The FBC Worship Choir, Orchestra, Praise Band and Praise Teams to accompany a selection of hymns and worship songs. From the music of Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, Casting Crowns and The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir to the timeless hymns, we desire for our worship to provide an opportunity for every worshiper to experience the Living Christ.

The Worship Choir practices each Tuesday evening at 6:30 with Worship Pastor Steve Buchanan.

    Students

    Student Pastor, Charlie McDonough

There’s a big difference between a youth group and a student ministry... if you’ve ever been in one you know what the difference is. Groups are all about themselves.. they eat pizza and they go bowling, and the group has lots of fun, and may even learn a little about Jesus along the way. A student ministry is focused on people who aren’t already in the group.

So if you’re into dance, or drama, computers, or music... or just about anything else, we have a place for you to fit in, plug in, and start doing what you do to worship Jesus and reach others.

    Life Groups

    What is a LIFE Group?

In a large population, creating a sense of community and connecting with others is important. In the church, it's crucial. LIFE Groups are small groups within the larger church in which people of similar interests take care of the "one-anothers" in life. In a large church, it's important that community exists in order for relationships to be real and relevant.

Another important aspect of connecting with First Baptist is finding a place to serve. LIFE Groups are the best place to begin that process. Each LIFE Group is designed to help you find a place of service in the church, in the community and in the world.

LIFE Groups are typically organized by age and life stage. They meet on Sunday mornings as well as in homes at various times during the week. Bible study is an important aspect of the group meetings. Fellowship and service are also important. LIFE is an acronym for "learn," "involve," "fellowship," and "evangelism." Each member of a LIFE Group is encouraged to be engaged in these four marks of a believer.

    Life in 3-D

There is something for everyone Wednesday evenings at 6:30 at First Baptist Church. In Life Groups, we learn God's Word. In Life in 3-D, we learn how to live it out in our daily lives. There are groups for all ages. Mission Groups for kids 3 years through 5th grade, Revolution Student Worship for middle and high school, Prayer Meeting, and more.

    Current Courses:

Is there credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God? Retracing his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith, Lee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, cross-examines several experts with doctorates from schools like Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis who are recognized authorities in their own fields.

After reading, studying and trying to implement the seven realities of Experiencing God, we have wanted a practical way of translating those truths into the life of the churches we serve. 'On Mission with God' helps us take the next step from theory to reality ... Avery Willis and Henry Blackaby ...have co-authored a book that takes seven characters from Scripture and they show us how these personalities experienced the Seven realities of Experiencing God.

Imagine your life, untouched by fear. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats. In Fearless, Max Lucado draws from Jesus' encounters with people in frightening situations and offers evidence that we can trust God through these scary times. "It seems like none of us are immune to fear. I was neck-deep in it as a bankrupt young entrepreneur twenty years ago, and I recognize it now in the voices of the people I talk to on the radio every day. The good news is that there is an antidote to fear! I recommend Fearless to anyone who is tired of the doom and gloom and ready to step out of fear once and for all." (Dave Ramsey)

Based on one of today’s most popular Bible studies for women, The Frazzled Female reaches out to busy ladies everywhere, guiding them to sanity, peace, and a deeper, more vibrant relationship with the Lord. Cindi Wood’s approach isn’t “no-nonsense,” because she’s as hilarious as she is helpful. But in the end, her readers will clearly learn how to become “victoriously frazzled.”
